GBV-SC Georgia is implemented in close cooperation with the key governmental entities, local NGOs and academia.
GBV-SC actively collaborates with the governmental entities on policy making and capacity building on issues of domestic violence and gender equality - the Parliamentary Advisory Council on gender Equality and the State Interagency Coordination Council as the two main gender units within the legislative and executive government. In line with its commitment to support to capacity building of the Government of Georgia in addressing DV, UNFPA Georgia developed a framework of cooperation with the Interagency Coordination Council GBV-SC supported the council by provision of various inputs such as recruiting technical expert to the council, provided IT equipment to establish the secretariat for the council etc. Both the Interagency Council and the Parliamentary Advisory Council were an excellent support to the project during the mass-scale 16 days of activism against gender based violence 2009 and beyond.
GBV-SC has worked consistently on strengthening inter-country networks to support information exchange with major state and non-state stakeholders, a number of joint initiatives took place, harnessing the partnership-building and coordination of efforts towards combating the GBV/DV in Georgia. Partnership initiatives have been carried out with the American Bar Association/Rule of Law Initiative (ABA/ROLI), the Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA), Women’s Information Center, Anti-Violence Network of Georgia, NGOs Sakhli, Sapari etc.
UNFPA Georgia is pursuing a new partnership initiative for 2010 of expanding the mandate of the legal aid office to cover the legal needs of the victims of DV. The legal aid office will thus become an integral part of the National referral Mechanism.
