(14 April, 2010, Tbilisi, Georgia) On April 14-17, 2010 a prominent international expert on gender issues and a White Ribbon Campaign co-founder Michael Kaufman will be visiting Tbilisi, Georgia commissioned by the United Nations Population Fund/Georgia office.

On April 14, at 14:00, Michael Kaufman will deliver a public advocacy speech complemented by a press conference at the Metekhi Sheraton Palace Hotel. Other speakers at the event include Vice-speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Chair of the Advisory Gender Equality Council Ms. Rusudan Kervalishvili, Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Mr. George Tsereteli, Ambassador of France to Georgia HEM. Eric Fournier and UNFPA Assistant Representative in Georgia Ms. Tamar Khomasuridze. The event will further be attended by the representatives of the parliament, government, diplomatic corps, international organizations, local NGOs and media.

Within the framework of the visit, Dr. Kaufman will conduct a three day regional training (TOT) on the role of men in advancing gender equality and ending violence against women. 30 Male participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia will participate in the training. The initiative is organized within the framework of the UNFPA implemented project “Combating Gender-Based Violence in the South Caucasus”.

Michael Kaufman has worked in over fifty countries for governments, business, NGOs and the United Nations to promote gender equality and end violence against women through “men talking to men” methodology. He is also the co-founder of the White Ribbon Campaign, the largest effort in the world of men working to ensure that our future has no violence against women.
