From December 8th through December 10th, Embassy of France in Georgia in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will be hosting a series of documentary movie screenings on gender and gender based violence at the A. Dumas French Cultural Center.
From December 8th through December 10th, Embassy of France in Georgia in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will be hosting a series of documentary movie screenings on gender and gender based violence at the A. Dumas French Cultural Center.
Ambassador of France HEM Eric Fournier and UNFPA Assistant Representative Ms. Tamar Khomasuridze will open the series of sessions on December 8th, 7.30pm.
Three movies – “Women from Georgia” (2008) by Levan Koguashvili, “Invisible” (2003) by Liana Jakeli and “Let you always sing Mother” (2008) by Zurab Inashvili will be screened, followed by discussions facilitated by gender experts and psychologists.
All three movies are of Georgian origin and describe lives of Georgian women in different settings: “Women from Georgia” by Levan Koguashvili describes the lives of Georgian women immigrants in the United States of America; “Invisible” by Liana Jakeli retells the story of Azeri women in the Southern Georgia who are forced to get married in their early teens and are isolated from public life due to gender stereotypes; “Let you always sing mother” by Zura Inashvili is a anthology of stories told by Georgian mothers from various regions of Georgia.
The movie screenings are organized within the framework of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. The 16 Days of Activism was launched on January 25th and aims at raising public awareness on gender issues. The campaign is held with the coordination of UNFPA implemented project “Combating Gender-Based Violence in the South Caucasus”, in collaboration with governmental, international and non-governmental organizations, Embassy of the France in Georgia and with further support of the Advisory Council on Gender Equality under the Chair of the Parliament of Georgia.
