(December 10, Tbilisi, Georgia) – On December 10, 2008, at 5pm United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) office in Georgia will mark closing of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and an International Human Rights day by a photo exhibition on women’s rights and a reception at Karvasla Hall (Sioni Str., 8).
This year, the 16 Days of Activism was coordinated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) implemented project “Combating Gender-Based Violence in the South Caucasus” in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations working in the field of Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence in Georgia.
Within the framework of the campaign, United Nations Population Fund implemented project “Combating Gender-Based Violence in the South Caucasus” in Georgia organized various activities to raise awareness on gender rights and issues: Screenings of short documentary films on domestic and gender-based violence in Georgia were held, conference on gender and family issues at the Tbilisi National Youth Palace was conducted, a TV talk show on domestic violence in Georgia was produced and aired on Imedi TV, a photo contest on women’s rights was organized. From November 25 through December 10, over 50 campaign related activities were held by different actors covering various regions of Georgia.
The event will be attended by the Vice Speaker of the Parliament and Chairperson of the Gender Equality Advisory Council H.E. Rusudan Kervalishvili, Vice Speaker of the Parliament H.E. George Tsereteli, representatives of government, parliament international and non-governmental organizations.
