(25 November,2008, Tbilisi, Georgia)A press conference and an official launch of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence will be held at hotel Tbilisi Marriott on November 25, 2008 at 7pm.

 

 


 

 

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (November 25 – December 10) is an international campaign used as an organizing strategy by individuals and groups around the world to call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women by raising awareness about gender-based violence, strengthening efforts around women’s rights and demonstrating the solidarity of women around the world.

This year, the 16 Days of Activism is coordinated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) implemented project “Combating Gender-Based Violence in the South Caucasus” in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations working in the field of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Domestic Violence (DV) in Georgia.

On the press conference, campaign organizers will introduce objectives of the 16 Days of Activism, will brief about planned activities within the framework of the campaign and will discuss prospects of existing and future cooperation between governmental, non-governmental and international organizations working in the field on GBV/DV

The event will be attended by Vice Speaker of the Parliament and Chairperson of the Gender Equality Advisory Council H.E. Rusudan Kervalishvili, Vice Speaker of the Parliament H.E. George Tsereteli, heads of UN agencies and representatives of government, parliament and non-governmental organizations.
