On May 5, 2011, 13:00, The Parliamentary Council on Gender Equality, State Inter-Agency Council on Domestic Violence and UNFPA/Georgia, will conduct a multi-sectoral meeting “Partnership for Combating Gender-Based Violence in Georgia” at the Ilia Chavchavadze Hall, Parliament of Georgia.
The meeting aims at reviewing and summarizing main results, achievements, challenges and lessons learned from the three years of progress achieved within the framework of the UNFPA/Georgia implemented project “Combating Gender-Based Violence in the South Caucasus” as a part of the national response to domestic violence in Georgia.
Chair of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. David Bakradze, Vice-Speaker and the Chair of the Parliamentary Council on Gender Equality Ms. Rusudan Kervalishvili, Chair of the Inter-Agency Council on Domestic Violence, Ms. Lali Papiashvili, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia Mr. Jamie McGoldrick, and UNFPA Assistant Representative in Georgia Ms. Tamar Khomasuridze will be giving welcoming speeches at the event.
UNFPA/Georgia with the support of the Royal Government of Norway launched the “Combating Gender-Based Violence in the South Caucasus” project in the spring of 2008 and since then has largely contributed to the national response to domestic violence both on policy and grass root levels, through data collection, advocacy and awareness raising, strengthening enabling environment to protect the rights of women and enhancing coordination and cooperation in the field. The project has been operating in close collaboration with the government of Georgia, donor organizations, local NGOs and academia.
