On November 22nd, 12:00, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will conduct a media meeting on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence will be held at the Hotel Sheraton Metekhi Palace.
The meeting aims at disseminating information about objectives and the activities of the upcoming 16 days of activism (November 25 – December 10).
The meeting will be chaired by the Vice Speaker of the Parliament, Chair of the Gender Equality Council Rusudan Kervalishvili, Chair of the State Inter-Agency Council on Domestic Violence, Lali Papiashvili and UNFPA Assistant Representative A.I. in Georgia, Lela Bakradze.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (November 25 – December 10) is an international campaign celebrated since 1991 by over 2,000 organizations in approximately 154 countries. The campaign isused as an organizing strategy around the world to call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women by raising awareness about gender-based violence.
The campaign is annually being celebrated in Georgia under the coordination of UNFPA/Georgia with the support of the Parliamentary Gender Equality Council in close cooperation with the international and non-governmental organizations working in the field. This year, over 70 events are planned within the framework of the campaign, including official opening of the campaign at the Parliament of Georgia, award ceremony for journalists on best gender media works, South Caucasus regional photo exhibition on gender, thematic movie screenings, information sessions etc.
